Have a Healthy Christmas!

“Gift yourself a fitter you this Christmas.”

It is very hard to keep yourself fit, especially during the festive season.  All that sugar is too tempting. However, this is no reason to give up on all fitness. There are still many ways in order to have an enjoyable Christmas while remaining healthy. Obviously, yes , you can treat yourself because it is Christmas; however, make sure not to excessively stuff yourselves with sweets so that you don’t have a lot of trouble getting back on track at the beginning of next year.

So, where to begin? Because the day starts with breakfast, it should always be healthy and nutritious. Having porridge with some strawberries and a hint of cinnamon can give a sweet start to the celebration. Porridge is a great way to start the day as it stabilizes blood sugar levels and controls the appetite later during the day.

In the middle of the day, a few snacks like banana slices with yoghurt will positively impact the whole family. When at a party, yoghurt’s protein slows the stomach emptying, which helps delay the effects of a glass of wine and the potassium-rich banana helps balance salt intake. The two blend very well together and children love it too.

During dinner time, a crunchy salad with salmon or chicken easily fill the stomach, have a lot of nutrients and most importantly taste delicious and blend in with Christmas perfectly.

Throughout the day, make sure to have loads of water. Even mild dehydration can lead to a headache and ruin the whole Christmas atmosphere. So, make a conscious effort to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water and plenty of herbal tea. However, if herbal tea is not preferred, water is just as effective.

Lastly, try to have fun but with a healthy point of view. A few sweets and dessert is expected; however, try not to over-eat because health is extremely vital. Keep fit and have an amazing Christmas!
